Streets + Beets 2013

flowers

This year I have decided to do something to give back to my community and my city. This something had to be active and it I needed to be able to directly see the impact. On May 4th I’ll be riding 40ish miles in the 3rd annual Streets + Beets ride. Donate to my ride and help support Alleycat Acres, an urban farming collective with farms in the Central District and Beacon Hill.

I first learned about Alleycat Acres when I was volunteering at the Danny Woo Children’s Garden in the International District back in 2010. It was Alleycat’s first year and I was drawn to their model of taking unused urban land and growing food for the surrounding community, while using bikes as much as possible. Riding bikes + eating veggies. Streets + Beets!

Why donate?

I ride my bike for free all the time, so why would you donate your hard-earned dollars for just another day of riding? I’m glad you asked! Streets + Beets is not just another ride! It is the main fundraising event for Alleycat Acres. All funds will directly benefit Alleycat and be used to keep the farms running as well as support community events and other projects.

How much?

Each rider commits to raising $100. This is my first year riding Streets + Beets and my first experience ever with this type of fundraising. My goal is to double that $100 requirement, so please help me get to $200 (and beyond) by donating as much or as little as you can.

*All donations are tax-deductible. Donors will receive a letter from Crowdrise that will serve as documentation of the donation.
